Yellow Class

Year 2 are beginning our topic on 'Day and Night'. We are learning about the differences between daytime and night-time and why day and night happen.

We are thinking about nocturnal animals which are awake at night. We are visiting the Hawk Conservancy to see a wide variety of birds, including some owls which are nocturnal.

Tomorrow we are lucky enough to have a visit from the explorer dome. We will be going inside a large inflatable dome in our school hall. Inside the dome it will be dark and we will see the night sky projected on the ceiling. This gives the children the opportunity to learn about the sun, the moon, the planets and the stars.

We are developing our fiction writing by describing characters and writing extended stories. The children have used different materials and paint to print some characters of their own. We are reading stories by Roald Dahl and have been laughing a lot at the descriptions of some of the characters.

We are also improving our non-fiction writing by writing facts related to our topic.

In maths we have been working on our understanding of number and solving problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
