Orange Class
Orange Class have recently started a new topic called Imaginary Worlds. The first world the children wanted to explore was 'Under The Sea'. They have read stories and poems and discussed the different things that might be under the sea and found out about the different animals that live in the sea.
The children made a collage of an under sea world complete with unusual fish and shipwrecks. They then used those collages to write some descriptive sentences and stories with a character of their choice. Here are some examples from their stories:-
'One day there was a young sea horse that had secrets that no-one knew. the young seahorse had rough skin and was a very different sea horse. He was 8 inches tall. He was orange. He was eating some nice reef outside his home'
'Once upon a time there was a puffer fish in the deep blue sea. He is hiding in his cave. He is scared of the big shark. He blows himself up. The big shark couldn't eat the puffer fish because he had spikes. The shark swam away. The puffer fish blew himself down. He went in his cave.'Our role play is now a pirate ship and the children have enjoyed dressing as pirates and making treasure maps with buried treasure marked by an X. They have created a "wanted" poster of a pirate, the meaner the better.
The children are looking forward to dressing up as pirates and walking the plank on our pirate day May 17th.
The children have been learning about islands and have drawn their own island and thought about the people and animals who might live there.
On our next adventure into an imaginary world we will be off into space. We shall be exploring planets, rockets and aliens.
In mathematics the children have been solving problems involving addition and subtraction and measuring using centimetres and metres. They have also been counting treasure, gold and jewels.
In science we are learning about sound, hearing and loud and quiet sounds. We shall soon be making our own musical instruments.
